EARTH DAY 2022
Planet Earth is so precious. It is our home, our family, our friend, our life source.
It is an incredible planet that is also home to the most amazing animals, beaches, mountains, plants, forests and so much more. BUT – it needs our help to care for it more consciously. Earth day should be every day!
EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN
As parents, we know that our influence is so incredibly powerful – little eyes are always watching us! Through immersing ourselves and our little ones in nature and making small changes every day to reduce our waste and live more sustainably, we purposefully lead a life by example to encourage our children to love and respect our planet. Children learn by observing, listening, exploring, experimenting and asking questions/conversing. We are their greatest teachers and such important role models. They will follow our lead so let's show them how to leave our Earth better than we found it.
"We don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." - Native American Proverb
WANDER + WILD'S COMMITMENT
We are committed to reducing our impact and choose to partner with Tree Sisters; an incredible charity focused on restoring the health of our planet through reforestation. For every Wander + Wild order received, a donation will be made on your behalf, which will fund the planting of three (yes THREE) trees!
We truly believe in embracing sustainable practices wherever possible. All Wander + Wild natural rubber gumboots come in a beautiful, reusable backpack – perfect for packing some extra adventure essentials. Our rain jackets are made predominantly out of single-use plastic bottles which we are incredibly proud of. All of the cards including our manifesto, thank you card and care cards that come with your order are printed on recycled card.
We package and ship with minimal waste and use compostable post bags where possible from Bare Packaging and The Better Packing Co and eco-friendly packing materials, including eco-friendly brown wrapping paper from Signet, eco-friendly tissue paper from No Issue, paper tape and biodegradable packing tape from Officeworks, twine and dried florals from my home. For extra protection, we may include our green biodegradable bubble wrap for books or re-use bubble wrap that we have received from other packaging. Sometimes the packaging is reused twice before reaching you which may mean it doesn't look pretty, however it's contributing to us reducing our impact! We’ll always aim to follow best practices where possible and insist that the factories we work with do so when sourcing, manufacturing, packaging and distributing our products. We collect and take any soft plastics that our items are freighted in to the 'RedCycle' bins at Woolies.
The compostable (comPOST) courier bags that we use are made from totally biodegradable and compostable materials; corn starch, PLA (synthesised from corn) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate). PLA (Polylactide) is a bio-based, biodegradable material made from renewable plant material (starches such as corn husks, rice straw and wheat straw). Once finished with your comPOST courier bag, we encourage you to reuse it to send another parcel or simply put it in the compost with your food scraps and garden waste. It will break down in a compost environment in a non-toxic process. They’re fine in worm farms and will also be broken down in a bokashi too.
As Australia Post now requires all businesses to measure and record dimensions of parcels before sending, we may need to use packing tape at times on your compostable post bag to decrease the size of your parcel to save on shipping costs. Please ensure you remove any sticky tape and shipping labels from bags before composting.
Wherever possible, we encourage you to reuse our packaging too … to either send your own parcels or to get crafty with your little loves. Together, let's do our best to reduce landfill and nurture our beautiful Mother Earth! We choose to use Australia Post as they are (mostly) a carbon neutral delivery service who are committed to reducing environmental impacts.
One of our goals for 2022 is to purchase and use compostable shipping labels and our big, big future goal is to say that we've contributed to planting 10,000 trees!
We thank you for being on this journey with us and supporting us every step of the way. There really is no planet B and our Earth needs our help, love and action NOW!
